Pastor Tommy Moats is an Ordained Minister in the Church of God and has held some level of ministerial credentialing for almost 30 years. He graduated from Lee College (now Lee University) in Cleveland, TN in 1994. His wife Heather has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State, in Pittsburg, Kansas.
Pastor Tommy has served in ministry since he was a helper in a 2 & 3 year old’s class at age 11. Through his college years, he served his local church in many area, working in elementary aged classes, volunteering in the youth ministry and later
serving as a lay youth minister while in college. During his time volunteering in the youth ministry, he had the opportunity to get hands-on training in children’s ministry. Many of the out-of-state mission trips that the youth group took included conducting Kid’s Crusades and Carnivals at a churches in place of Vacation Bible School. The crusades and carnivals provided Pastor Tommy with many opportunities to learn how to connect with kids through worship and delivering the Word. He quickly learned that kids needed sight and sound, along with preaching, to create fertile soil for the seeds of God’s Word to take root. In 2005 he took the role of Family Ministries pastor for a church plant. The role included ministry and staffing responsibilities for all ages from nursery through high school. As the church grew, the roles split allowing Pastor Tommy and Heather to take on the role of Children’s Pastors and relinquish the youth ministry responsibilities. Pastor Tommy and Heather served this ministry for 18 years before stepping away, but not leaving the church. Two years later they moved back to Pastor Tommy’s home church where they served in the children’s ministry as well as serving as interim children’s ministry coordinators as this church went through a children’s pastor transition.
Serving kids, children’s workers, and other children’s ministry leaders has been the focus of Pastor Tommy’s ministry for more than 30 years. He understands how to reach and teach kids, as well as mentor and raise up children’s ministry workers and leaders. His goal for KidMinCentral.com is to be a place to resource, equip, and encourage other ministry leaders to Center Kid’s Lives on Christ.
Pastor Tommy and Heather have been married for 27 years. They enjoy their family time including their trips to the mountains to hike. Pastor Tommy enjoys playing golf and photography while Heather enjoys reading, gardening, and the outdoors. Pastor Tommy and Heather have two sons, Thomas and Kenton.
